Newport Spring

A historic sulfur-scented spring and roadside swimming hole where a spring pool and vent feed a short run into the river. Improved with a concrete retaining wall on the road side. Once promoted as a health resort spring, the site today is a scenic, easy-access water feature with a greenish hue and distinctive sulfur odor that flows into the river about 0.3 miles downstream. Boulders have been place at the bottom to dam the spring and make it a bit deeper. Access via the river or Old Plank Rd.
