FWS Spring Complex

The system of natural springs and spring habitats within Kings Bay that are managed as part of the Crystal River National Wildlife Refuge Complex by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This spring complex includes major springs such as Three Sisters Springs, King Spring, Tarpon Spring, Hunter Spring, and others, which together discharge large volumes of clear, ~72–74 °F (22–23 °C) freshwater from the Floridan Aquifer into Kings Bay. The area is internationally renowned as a winter refuge for Florida manatees, attracting hundreds of manatees from November through March, and offers wildlife viewing, boardwalk access, trails, and water-based recreation in keeping with refuge conservation goals.
