Formerly Shepherd Springs is known for its clear, 72-degree water and a modest flow, likely under 5 million gallons per day. Set within “The Springs” gated community, its basin—up to 10 feet deep—offers no public access for swimming or kayaking, surrounded by hardwoods and residential areas. Accessible only to residents via private roads off SR 434, it’s closed to outsiders. Summer clarity remains high due to limited use—residents visit mornings in spring (April-May) or fall (September-October). Water clarity is typically vivid but can cloud with Little Wekiva River runoff after rain. Check Little Wekiva River —stable, low levels around 1-2 feet ensure clarity, clearest from late fall to early spring during dry periods.
